Commemorative €2 coins are specially designed coins issued by eurozone countries to commemorate historical events or draw attention to cultural elements that are current for that country.
Driven by the thought that minting 2 euro commemorative coins is a good way to promote one's country, the Croatian Mint issues the first Croatian 2 euro commemorative coin in polished plate (PP) quality, marking the introduction of the euro as the official Croatian currency.
Description: The national side of the commemorative coin: Inside the core of the coin are the inscriptions of the country of issue "CROATIA" and the year of issue "2023." shown horizontally, as well as the words "MEMBER OF THE EUROAREA", which are printed along the outer edge of the core of the coin. These inscriptions symbolically form the stylized euro symbol "€". The second central motif of the commemorative coin is the profiled and recognizable symbol of Croatia, the Croatian checkerboard, which represents part of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia established by the Law on the Coat of Arms, Flag and Anthem of the Republic of Croatia and the Flag and Ribbon of the President of the Republic of Croatia ("Narodne novine", No. 55/1990. , 26/1993 and 29/1994). In the outer ring of the national side of the commemorative coin there are 12 stars of the European flag. On the rim of the commemorative coin is the text "O BEAUTIFUL O DEAR O SWEET FREEDOM" in cursive from the Hymn to Freedom, which is an integral part of the pastoral "Dubravka" from the 17th century by the Croatian writer Ivan Gundulić.
